This week! The launch of the new album 'The World Turned Upsidedown' by the Miserichords and a multi-media poetry performance by Dolores Newton and her space cowboys.Miserichords (Mav Cunningham: voice / Will Glanfield: alto clarinet / David Leahy: double bass) have performed in a variety of settings including Turner Contemporary, Free Range City and Smuggler’s Festival.

Miserichords allow their music and words to unfold through simple, unhurried explorations that have a sense of maturity and stillness. They explore possibilities within pure improvisation centred around their intuitive perception of space, beauty, words, meaning and silence. This event is the launch of their first album, 'The World Turned Upsidedown', based around six poems inspired by the poetry of Maya Angelou

Delores Newton (#DeloresLive), the performance poet who lives between Dalston and Paris, has recently published a slim and glittering book of poems under the title Les Mecs des Étoiles. [Essayista Press 2018]. The poems are her take on the events which followed the Fall to Earth of Baz Winter and Ernie Kilgore-Jones two days after the death of David Bowie.

Tempted away from her beloved Paris just for this event at Free Range, Delores will be collaborating with Mr Fox, a local narrative artist who produced the sumptuous illustrations for the volume of poetry, on sale after the performance. The main event will a performance of some of the ‘space cowboy’ poems by Newton herself, backed on stage by members of her band, also called Les Mecs des Étoiles. The poet has also signaled her intention to invite the audience to participate in the creation of the sound track which may be used for future performances of the poetry sequence and a new edition of Les Mecs.

This performance features contributions from Joe Oversight, Meg Garrett-Jones, Mr Fox, Helen Henderson and Steve Gisby.
