  • Fruitworks Canterbury, England United Kingdom (map)

1000 Boats is a new band led by bassist Liran Donin featuring some of the UK’s most exciting musicians: Chris Williams (Let Spin) on alto sax, Josh Arcoleo (Native Dancer) on tenor sax, Maria Chiara Argiro (These New Puritans) on piano and Ben Brown (Waaju). This is passionate music making charged with influences from Liran’s Israeli and Moroccan background.

Their debut album 8 Songs was jazz album of the month in the Guardian and was voted one of the best 10 jazz albums of 2018.

EXCEPTIONAL **** Jazz Album of The Month (The Guardian)
Cultural and musical statement of fierce beauty **** (Jazzwise)
Excellent Debut **** (All About Jazz)
Highly engaging, exhilarating (BBC Music)

Also playing this evening are Nancy Gaffield and The Drift. Their new piece WEALDEN explores the consonance between nature, poetry and electronic music.

Nancy Gaffield is the author of five books of poetry. In 2014 she wrote an opera with composer Nicola Lefanu which toured nationally.

The Drift (Amelia Fletcher, Rob Pursey and Darren Pilcher) create bass-heavy, semi-improvised soundscapes inspired by, and infused with, the Kentish landscape.
